STEP BY STEP WITH JESUS
John 13:13-17; 1 Peter 2:21; 1Timothy 4:12
Our Lord Jesus Christ is our perfect example, and we should always follow in His steps.
Jesus is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6). He humbled Himself even unto
death. He washed His disciples‟ feet. Jesus was prayerful and obedient to His father in
heaven. We too must be humble and obedient to God‟s Word. We must follow His steps
in all that we do. The topic is in three parts.
1. WORTHY EXAMPLES FROM JESUS: John 13:14-15; Philippians 2:5-9; Mark 1:35
God sent Jesus Christ to this world in „human form‟ so that He could save the world
from their sins. His life on earth is filled with good examples to follow. These examples
include the following.
a) Prayer: Jesus always prayed and He taught His Friends how to pray. We too need to
follow His steps by praying.
b) Obedience to God: Jesus Christ was very obedient to His Father in all things.
Therefore, Friends of Jesus must obey the word of God.
c) Humility: Jesus humbled Himself even unto death on the cross. He also washed
His disciples‟ feet. Friends of Jesus must also be humble like Him.
d) Suffering: Jesus suffered so much for us. He bore shame and sorrow because of
our sins. Friends of Jesus that are being punished because of their love for Jesus,
must bear it with joy.
e) Preaching the gospel: Jesus went everywhere preaching the gospel to sinners. All
Friends of Jesus are commanded to preach the love of Jesus to sinful boys and
girls.
2. CALL TO FOLLOW IN HIS STEPS: 1Timothy 4:12; John 12:26; 1Peter 2:21.
When you become a friend of Jesus, it is not the name you bear, but the life you live
that will show that you are a true Christian. Let others see Jesus in you through your
words, action and by living holy. You need to follow Jesus step in the following ways. All
true friends of Jesus are commanded to follow the example of our master and Saviour
Jesus Christ:
a) In words: Jesus spoke encouraging words to the sick and even to His enemies.
Our words must edify and should make others happy and glorify God.
b) In Holiness: Jesus lived a holy life. No sin was found in Him. He stated clearly,
“be ye holy, for I am holy”. We must live a blameless life that is a life without
sin.
c) In charity: Jesus showed love as He went about doing good, He saves sinners,
healing the sick and delivering the oppressed. Friends of Jesus must love others
by helping the persecuted, the needy and visiting the sick. You are to pray and
preach to them.
d) In Faith: Jesus showed great faith, thereby, showing us the way to develop our
faith through prayer and by studying the word of God.
3. REWARDS OF FOLLOWING JESUS’ STEP: John 14:14.
Friends of Jesus who follow His steps will be rewarded. Such rewards include:
(a) Answers to prayers (b) Power to overcome temptations (c) Provision of all your needs
(d) Protection from all evil (e) Preservation of life and (f) Eternal life with Jesus in
heaven.
Sinful boys and girls cannot follow in His steps or enjoy these rewards. For you to enjoy
the above you must confess your sins; ask for forgiveness and cleansing in the blood of
Jesus. Receive Him as your Lord and Saviour today and follow Him till the end.
